Ring in the New Year with a New Deck!
If home improvement projects are on your New Year’s Resolution list, you may be considering a new deck for your home! It’s a common misconception that spring and summer are the best time to start outdoor home improvement projects, including building a new deck. However, winter is just as good of a time, if not better, to get started on your outdoor plans. Harmony Decking is here with a few great reasons to consider building a new deck during winter.
Why You Should Think about Building a New Deck During Winter
You may be thinking that building a new deck when the weather is cold isn’t a good idea, but building a new deck during winter has its perks. Here are just a few:
- Building takes time – Building a new deck is a big project and it can take some time to plan, get the right materials, and start building! If you want to enjoy your deck by the warm months, you’ve got to get started during winter.
- Less landscaping issues – Winter tends to be the time when most of your backyard landscaping is dead or dormant. Not only is it less likely to be in the way and therefore need to be cut, weeded, or pulled, but foot traffic by builders won’t affect your grass and plants that are usually growing during the spring. The ground is also typically firmer and harder during winter. Mushy or soft ground can make for difficult building conditions.
- It’s better for the lumber – The lumber for a new deck is typically pressure treated and still holding moisture. It begins to dry out once its built. Winter usually offers better conditions for the drying process because there is less humidity and moisture in the air. Higher temperatures and humidity levels make lumber more prone to splitting and warping.
